Alumasc Supports the UK Self Build Boom
Soaring house prices and increasingly difficult lending processes have meant that self build is no longer reserved purely for the wealthy, but is becoming a more popular way for aspiring homeowners to get themselves on the property ladder.
In addition to its extensive involvement in the commercial sector, Alumasc is also active in the self build market and is one of the main sponsors of The Self Build Portal – a new website designed to help self builders through the construction process.
The website, www.selfbuildportal.org.uk, is the result of a joint initiative between the government and the custom build housing industry, which aims to provide encouragement and advice to anyone wanting to build their own home. Housing Minister Grant Shapps has announced his intention to support a self build boom in the UK and Downing Street will be providing a funding package to initiate it.
The Self Build Portal website was launched this month at a meeting of Government and Industry experts held at 10 Downing Street. So far the site has received close to 10,000 visitors and is gaining followers rapidly on Twitter (#selfbuild).
